Fabulous Farmhouse Storage Solutions

As an organizer, I believe firmly in the marriage of form and function. A pleasing room design includes efficient, attractive storage solutions, and an effective organization system blends seamlessly with the room in which it operates. Together these two elements make a home not only functional, but also inviting, inspiring, and user-friendly.

Fortunately for us, we live in a world where home organization products abound. The estimated value of the home organization market in 2020 is 10.3 billion dollars! With so many organization products to choose from, finding the right ones to meet your specific needs and style can be challenging. For all those fans of farmhouse style, I've put together this collection of my favorite organization options. These farmhouse storage solutions are just the thing to lend a rustic, timeless charm to your décor while providing some much-needed clutter control.

Farmhouse Storage Suggestions

If you love the look of these farmhouse storage solutions but are not sure how to utilize them in your home, here are some suggestions to get your started.

1. Nesting Baskets

There's just something warm and homey about wicker baskets. I'm particularly fond on baskets with lids, and this set of nesting baskets is both beautiful and versatile. Use them in the living/family room to stash all sorts of necessities such as: lap blankets or throw pillows, kids' toys, board games, puzzles, DVDs, video games and equipment, and more.  I've got a similar set in my laundry room that I use to hide unattractive utilitarian items such as extra light bulbs, water filters, vacuum cleaner bags, disposable baking pans, and other necessary but unsightly things.

2. Seagrass Woven Hanging Storage Baskets

These charming round hanging baskets provide an especially decorative touch. Use them to show off house plants, fresh produce, colorful hand (bathroom) or dish (kitchen) towels, kitchen utensils, etc.

3. Compartmentalized Metal Bucket with Handle

What could be more rustic than a galvanized metal bucket? This compartmentalized version is perfect for storing flatware, kitchen utensils, colored pencils, pens, markers, paint brushes, scissors, and any number of kitchen, craft, or office supplies.

4. Glass Canisters

Almost everything looks pretty stored in a glass jar: pantry staples, cookie cutters, craft supplies, beauty products, you name it. Glass jars have a way of transforming the ordinary into colorful displays of practicality and purpose. They exude a general sense of hominess which makes them the perfect farmhouse storage solution. This stout pair is particularly inviting with their wide bases and large round handles, making them easy to fill and the contents easy to retrieve.

5. Metal Wall Mount Basket

There is something irresistible about mesh metal baskets and bins, particularly the hanging variety. Picture this vintage style basket in a kitchen filled with pretty spice jars, flavored vinegars, or an assortment of cooking oils. It would also be appealing in a bathroom filled with lotions and other beauty products or housing pretty tins or jars filled with sundry office supplies in a home office .

6. White Metal Kitchen Canisters

Mental tins are another staple of farmhouse storage solutions. These quaint canisters are perfect for doing just what they claim to do - storing flour, sugar, coffee, and tea. It's always convenient to have these staples handy on the countertop, but it's even better when their presence adds to the room's charm.

7. Divided Hand-woven Basket with Lid

I mentioned that I love baskets with lids, and this one with its inner divisions is a particular favorite. It's perfect for housing all the small stuff: office supplies, craft supplies, sewing notions, charging cables, tea bags or coffee pods. The possibilities are endless.

8. Metal Stacking Basket with Acacia Lid

Wood and metal are farmhouse staples. When combined, they exude even more character and charm. This sturdy stacking basket with its warm wooden lid offers an excellent storage solution for produce, especially since the lid can double as a cutting board. There are many other possibilities for this product. In the bathroom: store rolled hand towels and wash cloths in the basket and pretty lotions and creams on top. In the home office: store envelopes, note pads, or index cards in the basket and use the lid to store jars or tins filled with pencils, pens, and such.

9. Round Metal Wire Baskets with Faux Leather Handles

Here's another cool combination: metal and leather (albeit faux). There is something particularly alluring about round containers, and the large scale grid pattern of these baskets gives them a truly vintage vibe. They're perfect for lap blankets, stuffed animals, rolled bath towels, or even rolled up maps, charts, and blueprints.

10. Wooden Bin with Handle and Label Holder

I'm a sucker for metal label holders, so this piece speaks to me. Use it in the kitchen to store spice mixes or cocoa and other drink mix packets. Use it in the bathroom to store makeup/brushes, perfumes and lotions, or hair styling accessories. Use it in the office for papers, pens and pencils. Or use it in the craft room for paints and brushes.

11. Rustic Utensil Crock

Utensil crocks are a great way to free up space in kitchen drawers. They're also handy for placing frequently used tools within easy reach. This one has a wonderful farmhouse feel to it.

12. Revolving 2-Tier Stand

Nothing says farmhouse more than a metal chicken, right? Here we have another example of the stylish union of wood and metal. While this stand is perfect for housing fresh produce, it also makes a lovely serving piece. Alternatively, it would be great for storing coffee pods, creamer, etc. next to a Keurig machine or for displaying decorative hand soaps and washcloths in a country-style powder room.

13. Rope Basket with Leather Handles

Lightweight and durable yet malleable - this combination makes this (and other similar) baskets perfect for a child's room or other play space. Store toys, stuffed animals, or blankets.

14. Set of 3 Wooden Crates

The rustic finish on these wooden crates enhances their farmhouse feel, and what could be more versatile than a wooden crate? Use them to store lap blankets and throw pillows, books, bath towels, board games, toys, and even record albums. Stack them up on their sides to create a charming set of shelves.

15. Decorative Basket with Lid

Here I go again with the lidded basket theme. I can't help it... Here we have a smaller version that's perfect for a desktop, dresser, vanity, or bathroom counter. Store craft or office supplies, makeup, nail care items, hair styling accessories, or your favorite treasures.

16. Metal Wire Wall Mounted Basket

The Amazon images show this divided hanging basket filled with fresh produce, which is pretty and functional but by no means the only use for this item. I think it would be nice in a home office, bathroom, or entryway as well.

17. Fabric-lined Wooden Crates

These white fabric-lined wooden crates are great in closets for storing everything from linens to sweaters to shoes. They also work well for toys, blankets, stuffed animals, and more. They come in four sizes to fit a variety of needs. The smaller version is great for bathroom accessories.

18. Metal Wire Basket Tray

The longer I work as an organizer, the more uses I find for basket trays in all their varieties. The metal wire version is my favorite when it comes to decorative appeal. These trays are designed for use in pantries, and I LOVE them for this purpose, but they are almost too pretty to keep hidden behind cabinet doors. They also work great on a countertop or shelf where their farmhouse charm can be better appreciated for its contribution to the décor. Use them to store rolled up dish or hand towels, papers, notebooks, and more.

19. Apothecary Jars with Rustic Metal Lids

Even the name apothecary is appealing, and apothecary jars are so multipurpose in terms of their storage capacity. While they're perfect for storing small, decorative soaps, Q-tips, cotton balls, makeup sponges, lipstick tubes, or bobby pins in the bathroom, their uses extend to the home office, craft room, and beyond.

20. 3-Drawer Wooden Organizer

I love the combination of contrasting wood tones on this piece, not to mention the versatility. It's perfect for storing everything from office supplies to craft supplies, to personal grooming supplies and more, and it would work wonderfully in any room of the house.

21. Metal Wire Desktop Organizer

A good system for managing incoming and outgoing paperwork is essential to an organized household, and this is a lovely farmhouse style solution. I love the scalloped edges. They give an otherwise industrial looking item a hint of softness. Set this organizer on a desk or countertop or hang it on the wall.
As you can see, there is a delightful array of farmhouse storage solutions available. We've really only scratched the surface here with a few of my personal favorites. Click on any of the numbered items above (links are under the image at the top of the page), and with a little scrolling you'll find a variety of related products as well to enhance your search.

I wish you well in your quest to create a beautifully organized, beautifully decorated home where form and function work hand in hand.
